Upper Arlington native. Community leader. Husband and father.
Financial Advisor and Partner at Edward Jones · Upper Arlington, Ohio
I'm Joe Lotozo, a CFP® professional, lifelong resident of Upper Arlington, Ohio, a proud Ohio State Buckeye, and a Financial Advisor and Partner at Edward Jones. I grew up here, went to Upper Arlington High School, and I've chosen to build my career and raise my family in the same community I've always called home.
Before joining Edward Jones in December 2012, I worked in an environment that served ultra-high-net-worth clients. That experience shaped a simple belief that drives everything I do: every person deserves that same quality of attention, guidance, and care, regardless of where they are in life.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University and my Master of Science in Personal Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning. I am currently pursuing my MBA at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business through their Working Professionals program. Over the years I've added five professional designations, not because I had to, but because the people I serve deserve someone who never stops learning.
Outside the office, I'm a husband and a dad to our three daughters. You'll find me keeping bees, tending the garden, staying active with rugby, or exploring somewhere new with my family. My mother, Lorelei M. Lanier, is an estate planning attorney in Columbus with over 44 years of experience — so you could say helping families plan for the future runs in the family. I believe that knowing your advisor as a person matters, and I'd love the chance to get to know you too.
These designations represent years of rigorous advanced study, ongoing education, and a commitment to professional excellence.
Upper Arlington is more than where I work. It's home. Giving back to this community is something I take seriously, and I'm proud to serve alongside so many dedicated people.
Here's what keeps me going outside of work.
A few books on my nightstand right now.
A day at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium with my family — one of our favorite ways to spend a Saturday.
A few moments from around Upper Arlington. Hosting neighbors for our annual Thanksgiving open house is one of my favorite traditions.
I'm fortunate to work alongside two talented people who share a genuine commitment to our Upper Arlington community.
Joe's curiosity about technology and the future extends beyond the office. In 2023, he co-authored a book with ChatGPT-4, not as a stunt, but as a genuine experiment to explore what AI could and couldn't do when GPT-4 first launched.
AI Unmasked: Demystifying the Myth of Sentient Machines
Joseph A. Lotozo & ChatGPT-4 · Independently Published, March 2023 · 140 pages
The idea for this book was born out of heated debates with Joe's father-in-law about the future of artificial intelligence, specifically whether AI could ever become truly sentient, self-aware, or conscious. Rather than just argue the point, Joe decided to put it to the test. When GPT-4 launched, he used it as a co-author to write a book exploring those very questions.
The result is a wide-ranging exploration of AI's history, its current capabilities and limitations, the nature of consciousness, and the ongoing ethical debate around artificial general intelligence (AGI). It's an accessible, honest look at what AI can and cannot do, written with AI itself.
